Man tried to abduct seven-year-old girl in Red Deer

Police are looking for a suspect who attempted to kidnap a young girl from Kentwood on Monday.

Police are looking for a suspect who attempted to kidnap a young girl from Kentwood on Monday.

Red Deer RCMP received a report that a seven-year-old girl was walking north on Keast Way, directly across from the church at 8 Keast Way, when she was approached by an unknown man between 3 and 3:30 p.m.

The suspect was standing outside his vehicle when he asked her where she lived and asked her get into his vehicle so he could drive her home.

The suspect did not touch the girl or attempt to physically coerce her into the vehicle. The girl screamed and ran away. The man got into his vehicle and left the area, driving north on Keast Way.

The suspect is described as having a dark complexion, average to slim build and between 20 and 30 years old. He is less than 1.8 metres (six feet) tall with short brown hair, shaved on one side and combed over from right to left. He wore a grey hoodie with the hood up under a black leather jacket, and blue jeans. He spoke with an accent.

The vehicle is described as a newer, white, compact four-door car with silver trim on the headlights and grill.

RCMP continue to investigate. Police are working with the victim to develop a composite sketch of the suspect, which will be released as soon as it is completed.
