A man pleaded guilty in Red Deer court to fatally shooting an acquaintance in Lacombe last December.

Tyler John Campbell, 28, pleaded guilty to manslaughter with a firearm in Red Deer provincial court on Monday as a preliminary hearing was about to begin.

Charges of second-degree murder, robbery with a firearm and conspiring to commit an offence were dropped by the Crown prosecutor.

The same three charges were dropped by the Crown prosecutor against Amie Joanne Rogers, 22.

Campbell is due back in court on Jan. 29 to be sentenced.

Lacombe police were called to the local hospital around 2 a.m. Dec. 15, 2019, after Jeffery Kraft, 20, was dropped off with a gunshot wound.

Kraft, who was from Ponoka, later died from his injuries.

Police said Kraft had met up earlier with the two suspects, whom he knew.

While driving in northeast Lacombe, a confrontation occurred and a suspect allegedly pulled a gun and shot Kraft.

Lacombe police put out word they were looking for suspects. The two were spotted by Sylvan Lake RCMP and arrested after a short foot chase.
