Maskwacis RCMP arrest, charge wanted man

A Maskwacis man is facing weapons-related charges after allegedly resisting arrest.

Two RCMP officers were on patrol Wednesday afternoon when they spotted Donovan Rain, 28, who was wanted on charges for multiple armed robberies.

Police say when officers attempted to stop and arrest him, he entered the back seat of a nearby vehicle, occupied by two witnesses. He reportedly braced himself inside and denied he was Donovan Rain.

Officers attempted to remove the man from the vehicle, but noticed he had a metal object concealed in the front of his clothing, said police.

Additional Maskwacis RCMP officers were requested to assist with Rain, who allegedly continued to struggle with the two police members on the scene.

Officers were able to remove Rain from the vehicle and arrest him without injury. The two occupants inside the vehicle were not harmed.

Police say two machetes were located strapped to the front of Rain’s body.

Rain is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting arrest and other related charges following the arrest in the Samson townsite.

He will appear in court in Wetaskiwin on Dec. 10.
