Maskwacis RCMP are investigating the murder of a 55-year-old man that occurred early on Sunday.
Just after 3:30 a.m. police responded to a complaint of the man who was in medical distress following an altercation in a residence at the Samson First Nation. Efforts were made to resuscitate the man but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the residence.
RCMP have identified a person of interest and are not looking for any further suspects. It is not believed that this was a random event.
An autopsy will be held Monday at the Edmonton office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Police have not identified the victim.
RCMP Major Crimes South have assumed the homicide investigation with assistance from Wetaskiwin/Maskwacis General Investigation Section and Maskwacis Crime Reduction Unit.
