The Alberta Government has found a new justice in Red Deer.

In an announcement Tuesday, the province said they have appointed Matthew Park as a Court of King’s Bench applications judge.

Park has served as secretary to the Central Alberta Bar Society and as director of the Central Alberta Community Legal Clinic Foundation. He is also a charter member of the Waskasoo Optimist Club of Red Deer and has served as director and treasurer of the Red Deer Downtown Business Association.

“Having an applications judge in Red Deer will improve access to justice for residents,” said Tyler Shandro, Minister of Justice

“Matthew Park is an outstanding member of his community and I congratulate him on his appointment.”

Park began working with Warren Sinclair LLP as a student-at-law in 2005. He then became an associate lawyer and has been a partner since 2010. He specializes in commercial litigation.

Park is the first applications judge to reside in Red Deer, and his appointment takes effect June 1.

An applications judge, which was previously called a master in chambers before it was renamed in 2022, hears and decides applications to the court, including procedural matters in civil and family cases, bankruptcy proceedings, and other matters.
