The Mayor’s Special Award given to the 5,000 volunteers who made the 2019 Canada Winter Games a success will be on display for the next two months at the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.

Since the city could not present an award to each volunteer, Patricia Martens was chosen to represent the thousands of volunteers and accepted the award from Mayor Tara Veer earlier this year in a virtual event.

Beginning Friday, the award will be on display at the hall of fame for viewing and, perhaps, volunteer photo ops. The award will be on display until Jan. 22, 2022.

The Mayor’s Recognition Awards recognize individuals, groups or teams who have brought honour and recognition to Red Deer in one of five categories. Award recipients are chosen by the Mayor’s Recognition Awards Selection Committee, with the exception of the Mayor’s Special Award recipient, which is selected by the Mayor.

Go to www.reddeer.ca/mra to see 2020 award recipients, hear and read their stories and learn why they were selected as award recipients.
