A Red Deer couple have a million reasons to be happy.

Brad and Dawn Rowbotham won $1 million in the LOTTO MAX draw on June 18. The ticket was purchased from Red Deer Co-op, at 69 Dunlop St.

Brad Rowbotham is general manager and a director of Red Deer’s Roll’n Oilfield Industries Ltd.

In the spring, he bought the Stockton Thunder, a California-based hockey team.

He learned they won when he checked their numbers on the Internet a few days after the draw.

“I checked the ticket about five times and then went downstairs to ask Dawn to take a look. My legs were a little weak — it takes a bit of time before it hits you,” Brad Rowbotham said.

The couple is not sure what they’ll do with the money, other than to put some towards their children’s education.
