Innisfail RCMP is urging drivers to be cautious when driving on Queen Elizabeth Highway 2.

The Integrated Traffic Unit is advising drivers to avoid travel on the highway from Ponoka to Olds.

“Police are reporting poor driving conditions from slippery icy roadways causing multiple motor vehicle collisions,” said police.

Drivers are asked to take extra precautions if travel is necessary, Innisfail RCMP said.

Three Hills RCMP is also warning motorists that high wind gusts, ice and snow covered roads are creating poor driving conditions.

Travel on commuter highways in Knee Hill, Trochu and Red Deer Counties is not recommended, said Three Hills RCMP.

Environment Canada issued a wind warning in central Alberta Monday afternoon.

Strong winds, with gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour, are forecasted to develop this afternoon, Environment Canada said, adding blowing snow and reduced visibilities are possible as a result of the strong winds.

Winds will begin to ease this evening.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage,” said Environment Canada.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.”
