Multiple traffic disruptions over next week in Red Deer

Motorists and pedestrians are being advised of traffic disruptions in downtown Red Deer over the next week for special events, infrastructure maintenance, and seasonal construction.

Between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 50 Avenue will be closed between 48 Street and 50 Street for the Downtown Market.

From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, the following roads will be closed:

– 51 Street between 49 Avenue and 50 Avenue

– 50 Street between 49 Avenue and 50 Avenue

– 50 Avenue between 50 Street and 51 Street

Between 6 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 and 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, 48 Avenue will be closed between 48 Street and 49 Street as construction crews working on the new provincial Justice Centre will work to dismantle the south crane.

The current closure on 49 Street between 51 Avenue and 49 Avenue is expected to reopen at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23.

The partial closure that has traffic reduced to one lane at the intersection of 49 Avenue and 49 Street is expected to be in place until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Signs will be in place to notify motorists of all traffic disruptions. Drivers are reminded to slow down and obey all signs when driving in construction zones. Pedestrians are reminded to cross only at designated crosswalks.
