Sadia Khan is a Red Deer city council candidate.

This moment is a call to action for practical decision making and new point of view leadership to guide and position Red Deer for success. To me, that means listening to the people in our community, respecting their priorities and recognizing their capabilities and capacities. It means responding to the needs of Red Deerians and reminding them that they are part of the community and that their voice is important in building a strong community.

I am an entrepreneur, active community member with experience in board governance, project management, educational and community based leadership and an advocate for Red Deer. I am committed to working hard to ensure the council decisions reflect the entire community. To make government as accessible and transparent as possible, so that democracy, community, and advocacy drives everything that we do together.

That’s why I am running to be your city councillor!

Sadia’s New: Point of View platform

You deserve to know what values and principles will guide your elected officials.

You need to know who you’re voting for.

In the last few years, I have worked in various capacities that allowed me to listen to the many extraordinary stories from people across our city. I have heard stories of struggle and success, of trials and triumphs, of heartbreak and healing and of fear and optimism.

As your city councillor, I will honour my commitment to keep listening to the people in my community, to take action, respecting their priorities and recognizing their capabilities and capacities. I will respond to the needs of the people of Red Deer and remind them that the future of our city is in our hands.

Revitalize, re-grow, and reinvent downtown

Downtown Red Deer is the heart of this city and having a healthy heart is essential to having a strong community. Downtowns are iconic and powerful symbols for a city, they are a key to helping a community grow and prosper. I take pride in supporting local downtown businesses as I believe they are the backbone of Red Deer’s economy.

Youth engagement

“The youth of today are the leaders tomorrow” (Nelson Mandela). My vision is to provide the youth leaders a platform for opportunities and be given a priority on the council’s agenda. I have the privilege of working with youth who are making change happen in our community today. And I would like to continue to support them.

Community prosperity

Red Deerians have identified they are willing to play an integral role in creating a safe and thriving community that we can all call home.

I believe that Red Deerians are ready to engage and take action that will improve community safety issues but also improve the standard of living for everyone in Red Deer. We need our city to be actively welcoming and inclusive. This will allow our city to be placed on the map as the place to work, to live, to socialize, to thrive. The lack of accessible housing, the rate of unemployment, and our approach to these matters requires a community minded approach. I believe in building connections that are meaningful and fulfilling, in continuing the initiatives that focus on civic duty and self determination that are inclusive and compassionate for everyone in our community. We must ensure that all people have opportunities to engage in community life, support those who are isolated, and furthest from the decision-making table.
