A man and a woman accused of murdering a recent arrival from the East Coast in Red Deer will have preliminary hearings.

Quentin Lee Strawberry, 38, and Jennifer Lee Caswell, 37, are each charged with second-degree murder and assault causing bodily harm in connection with the death of Joseph Junior Alfred Gallant, 45.

RCMP were called to a Grandview home around midnight on March 29. Neighbours phoned 911 after Gallant, who had been stabbed, called for help. The father of two died later in hospital.

Neighbours said Gallant had been living with his wife. The couple was described as quiet and good neighbours. Gallant had come to Red Deer for work from Prince Edward Island less than four months before his death.

Preliminary hearings for Strawberry and Caswell have been set for Feb. 28, 2020, in Red Deer provincial court.

The hearings, which are subject to a publication ban, are held to determine if there is enough evidence to go to trial.
