Mounties and conservation officers used snowmobiles to help rescue two hunters stranded in deep snow as temperatures plunged in Alberta's Kananaskis Country on the weekend.

RCMP say three people were in the region's Cat Creek area on Saturday when one of them got hurt and couldn't walk.

He sat huddled with a companion, while a third man hiked to a road to get cellphone service to call for help.

Snowmobiles allowed rescuers to get close enough to the stranded pair and get them to safety.

Temperatures had dipped to -35 C and police say the two were nearing hypothermia.
