MONCTON, N.B. — Neighbours in the Moncton, N.B., area where alleged gunman Justin Bourque grew up are offering their support to his family.
A local church administrator says she feels terrible for Bourque’s parents Denise and Victor, whom she calls good people.
Dianne LeBlanc says she hasn’t seen Justin Bourque at church for years, but describes his folks as dedicated Catholics who never missed a Sunday service.
A neighbour in the west-end residential district would only respond to inquiring reporters by saying her heart was with the family and that the neighbourhood has received news of the arrest “very sadly.”
A man who described himself as Bourque’s childhood friend fought back tears as he stood in front of the house and said he wished he could have done more to help.
John Doubt, who lives next to the Bourques, says he was stunned to learn that the 24-year-old man was implicated in the killing of three RCMP officers and described the family as helpful, kind and happy.
