Red Deerians hoping to use the Collicutt Centre’s new waterslide will have to wait.

The slide was scheduled to open at the facility Saturday, but it is taking longer than expected to complete.

Denis Delmont, Collicutt Centre supervisor, said they are hopeful for an Oct. 5 opening for the slide.

The pool was open to the public Saturday – the water park has been closed since Sept. 9 for regular annual maintenance.

Part of the original facility design, the slide was approved for installation by city council during the 2019 annual budget process.

Required infrastructure, including support posts, were built during the original construction, so 2019 expenses are limited to the purchase of the slide and installation costs. The total project budget is $282,000.

A contest was held to determine the first person to ride the new waterslide earlier this month. The winner was to be selected Sept. 23.
