There are people you meet that you don’t easily forget and Daria Zmiyiwsky is one of these people.

Black Press Media COO Josh O’Connor announced Friday that Zmiyiwsky is joining the company as Red Deer Advocate publisher and Prairie division president for Black Press Media. She will start her new role in early February 2022.

“I’m excited to move to central Alberta, to take on this role and start working with Advocate’s talented team of professionals,” said Zmiyiwsky. “I’m looking forward to continuing the work that former publisher Mary Kemmis started. She has laid a great foundation and I’m excited to further that journey.”

Kemmis, who recently moved to B.C. to take on the vice-president role for B.C. north within the company, said Zmiyiwsky is going to be an asset to the central Alberta community.

“Daria’s deep commitment to community service and community journalism combined with her strong marketing and team leadership skills will ensure Red Deer Advocate’s trajectory of growth carries on,” said Kemmis.

As a motivational leader in an ever-evolving world, especially now during the pandemic, Zmiyiwsky brings with her an impressive track record of leading teams to high levels of success and productivity. She lives by the principle Take care of the people and the people will take care of the business.

“Team wellbeing is first and foremost for me,” she said.

O’Connor says Zmiyiwsky has the ability to think outside the box when it comes to helping customers achieve their business goals through print, digital and creative content. O’Connor adds that Zmiyiwsky has always been a strong advocate of supporting local businesses and as they transition to new normals, she’ll be a strong supporter of the Central Alberta business community and their efforts to rebuild the local economy.

Zmiyiwsky is eager to get involved in the community and serve on various boards in Red Deer. Her dedication to community involvement in the past has earned her the prestigious Paul Harris Award through Rotary.

“I love small towns and small cities. I love their vibe. And Red Deer offers that mix of both.”

“I’m particularly excited about exploring Red Deer’s trail system in my spare time,” said Zmiyiwsky.
