2A South Regional Transit links Innisfail and Penhold with Red Deer

A new regional transit system connecting Innisfail and Penhold with Red Deer will be officially opened next week.

The 2A South Regional Transit Service expands on the bus service that already links Red Deer County’s Gasoline Alley and Springbrook with Red Deer Transit.

To celebrate the initiative, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 9:15 a.m. when the bus will arrive at Bower Mall bus stop on Bennett Street.

The two-year project is a collaborative effort between Red Deer, Red Deer County, Innisfail, Penhold and the province. The Alberta government provided $700,000 in funding from the Rural Transportation Pilot Project program to help launch the service.

Those interested in checking out the new service are encouraged to take advantage of free rides during the first month of operations. As of Feb. 11, fares will cost $5 per trip.
