A new waterslide is coming to the Collicutt Centre.
The facility’s water park closed for regular maintenance Monday until Sept. 27, and during this time, the new slide will be installed.
The water park and slide will open to the public at 11 a.m. on Sept. 28.
Red Deerians are invited to attend a celebration in the water park on opening day, featuring games and activities for children and youth.
There will be a contest to determine the first person to ride the slide. To enter, people are asked to submit their favourite memory from a city recreation facility or program on or before Sept. 20.
A winner will be selected randomly and notified on Sept. 23. For more information on the contest, visit www.reddeer.ca/waterslide.
The slide, part of the original facility design, was approved for installation by city council during the 2019 budget process.
Required infrastructure, including support posts, were built during the original construction, so 2019 expenses are limited to the purchase of the slide and installation costs.
The total project budget is $282,000.
