Sharon Graham serves Gerri Stewart, president of Royal Canadian Legion branch 212, a cup of moose milk, a traditional mixture of egg nog and rum, in Sylvan Lake. This is the 15th year for the Legion’s annual New Year’s Day Levee, an event that dates back to fur traders paying their respects to the trading company’s master of the Fort. Levees are now mostly observed by the governor general, provincial lieutenant-governors and the military to mark the year’s beginning and for the public to pay its respects.
