The City of Red Deer has a new pediatrician.
Dr. Clara Morin works out of Pediatric Consultants Associated and the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Alberta Health Services announced on Wednesday.
Morin is currently on maternity leave and will not return until after Christmas. Pediatric Consultants Associated is also a referral based clinic and does not to general care.
Morin received her medical training the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina, and most recently practised in Hamilton, Ont., and Medicine Hat.
“I love Red Deer,” Morin said.
“It’s a lively city, close to big cities like Edmonton and Calgary but not as busy as them. Full of trails and beautiful things to do. And I have a great team of coworkers that makes my job really enjoyable.”
AHS is continuing to recruit for physicians across Alberta to meet community needs.
The provincial health authority has physician resource planners who aim to identify and pursue international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. The planners work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local health advisory councils, the rural health professions action plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.
Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health and MLA for Red Deer-North, said access to a pediatrician “helps children and youth grow up” to be as healthy as possible.
“The recruitment of Dr. Morin improves that access for local parents and caregivers, and is great news for our growing city and surrounding areas,” said LaGrange.
“Our government continues to work with Alberta Health Services and our partners to recruit physicians to communities across the province, improving access to primary care services for all Albertans.”
Jason Stephan, Red Deer-South MLA, added: “It is great to see more physicians choosing to make Red Deer their home, serving individuals and families in our wonderful community.”
