Nordegg lauded as gateway to adventure

An outdoors magazine has listed Nordegg as one of Canada’s top 10 new adventure basecamps.

An outdoors magazine has listed Nordegg as one of Canada’s top 10 new adventure basecamps.

The national publication explore covers a variety of outdoor topics including adventure, camping, gear and travel.

The magazine notes the variety of outdoor adventure activities in the Nordegg area includes hiking, climbing, mountaineering, caving, whitewater paddles and ice climbing. Nordegg is 173 km west of Red Deer on Hwy 11.

“Midway between the towns of Banff and Jasper, Nordegg is the better-positioned and often-overlooked sister. It too sits amongst the Canadian Rockies with craggy peaks out the back door, a growing mountain bike trail network, a large mountain-lined lake nearby and the historic Saskatchewan River. But lesser-known, it attracts a fraction of the tourists. Plus, it’s a short drive to northern Banff National Park and all the world class hiking and mountaineering therein,” the article states.

The other towns listed included Carcross, Yukon; Comox Valley and Golden, in B.C.; Elkwater, Alta.; Thunder Bay, and Huntsville in Ontario; Saint-Raymond, Que.; St. Andrews, N.B.; and St. Anthony, N.L.
