Notley says moving on from Northern Gateway pipeline is realistic, not defeatist

NDP Leader Rachel Notley says her party’s decision to move on from the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline is not defeatist, but realistic.

EDMONTON — NDP Leader Rachel Notley says her party’s decision to move on from the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline is not defeatist, but realistic.

Notley says the province has to be strategic when it comes to fighting for pipelines.

She says given the environmental concerns and legal challenges by First Nations groups over the line to the B.C. coast, it won’t get built for decades, if at all.

She says it’s bad government to fight and plan for a pipeline that will likely never be built.

Notley says her party is still behind pipelines, including one that would take oil to refineries on Canada’s east coast.

She says her party if it forms government after the May 5 election, will also take steps to get more oil refined in the province to create more jobs.
