Notley says some NDP candidates in Alberta election also nominated federally

CALGARY — The federal NDP may have to look for some new candidates in Edmonton after next Tuesday’s Alberta election.

NDP Leader Rachel Notley acknowledges that some of her candidates are also nominated for the federal election expected later this year.

She says they have committed to her that if they do win the provincial election they will stay on as members of the legislature.

Notley says the move became necessary because the Progressive Conservative government didn’t adhere to its own election law, which would have had Albertans go to the polls next year.

The NDP boss made a stop in Calgary today where she promised to eliminate a planned Tory health-care levy and get rid of cuts to health care.

She says Tory Leader Jim Prentice appears desperate because he is focusing on the NDP platform instead of focusing on his own ideas.
