NOVA Chemicals Joffre Site Social Club did not let the COVID Grinch steal Christmas this year.

The Club donated passes to a private NOVA event at the Canadian Tire Magic of Lights to area Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations on Sunday.

“The United Way is our charity of choice and we couldn’t think of a better broker to manage our unused vehicle passes and left-over individual lunch boxes,” said Mark Hodson, Joffre site leader.

The Canadian Tire Magic of Lights is a 2.5-kilometre drive-through display, featuring vibrant LED – lighted scenes at the Castrol Raceway near the Edmonton International Airport.

Nearly 90 vehicles filled with guests from BBBS Lacombe, Ponoka, and Red Deer toured the lights while observing social distancing guidelines.

“A great big thank you to NOVA Chemicals Joffre Site Employee Social Club for sponsoring our mentors, kids and families to attend the Castor Speedway Canadian Tire Magic of Lights,” said Crystal Zens, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Brothers Lacombe. “It was spectacular! Thank you for thinking of our program and allowing them to have a magical night.”

The next day, two more area agencies benefited from the event. NOVA Chemicals staff brought 80 meal boxes to the residents of Amethyst House and the Shelter at Safe Harbour Society.
