The first day of fall on Saturday sounds like the perfect day for an Old-Fashioned Fall Fair as well as continuing Red Deer’s year-long centennial celebration. The fair at Sunnybrook Farm runs from noon until 4 p.m.

The full afternoon of activities includes races, a penny carnival, cow milking contest, crafts, horseshoes and chicken plop bingo.

Live musical entertainment, a highland dance demonstration and a ventriloquist show are on the schedule. Ladies from Sunnybrook Farm will be selling pie and ice cream. Other fair food items will also be available.

Of course, centennial cake will be served.

Visitors are encouraged to bring an entry for the plant/flower/grains exhibit or enter the competition for the largest pumpkin, best dressed vegetable or scarecrow. Admission is free for the fair, but the scarecrow competition has an entry fee. The business entry fee is $50, the family entry fee is $15 and for non-profit organizations its $20.

Participants are encouraged to bring their entries to Sunnybrook Farm by 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Entry forms can be picked up at the Red Deer Centennial office, 4816 Gaetz Ave., or online at www.reddeer2013.ca Judging will be by popular vote.

On-site parking is for handicapped visitors only. General parking is available in lots along Brenmer Avenue with sidewalk access to the farm.
