Olds-area home destroyed by fire Friday morning

Volunteer firefighters from Olds, Didsbury and Carstairs responded

An Olds-area home was destroyed by fire Friday morning.

Olds Fire Department was dispatched to a rural home about two kilometres south of the town off Highway 2A about 7:30 a.m., after getting a 911 call from a neighbour.

“Upon arrival, crews found a fully involved single-storey detached home fully engulfed in flames,” says the fire department in a news release.

About a dozen volunteer firefighters from Olds, Didsbury and Carstairs worked to prevent the fire from spreading from the home to an adjacent structure. No one has lived in the home for some time, said the fire department.

“A water shuttle operation was initiated utilizing the high-capacity tender trucks recently purchased by Mountain View County,” said the fire department.

“These units provided a new advantage to firefighters to have the increased water available early in the fire attack.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate was not yet available.
