Olds College has selected TELUS Agriculture as its 2021 Partner of the Year.

The award is one of the most prestigious ones bestowed by the college, states a release.

Last year, Olds College and TELUS Agriculture created a million-dollar partnership in support of the Olds College Smart Farm and the development, acceleration and integration of technology into the global agri-food value chain.

On the Olds College Smart Farm, TELUS Agriculture has been testing innovations like security solutions, weather stations, field sensors, and rural connectivity solutions.

“Olds College and TELUS Agriculture share tremendous alignment in our values and our desire to optimize the food production value chain through the flow and utilization of data,” said Olds College president Stuart Cullum.

“We are both purpose-driven organizations working together to advance the agriculture sector.”

The Partner of the Year award will be presented at A Celebration of Alberta Ag, a free two-hour live-streamed event hosted by Olds College on April 9.

“In partnering with Olds College, we saw an opportunity to help facilitate our shared vision and invest in the future of our agriculture industry in Canada and our global food system,” said Chris Terris, VP, global strategy & president, TELUS Agriculture – Canada.

“The Smart Farm is a truly cutting-edge learning environment where students, producers and the agriculture sector can collaborate and innovate together to test new technology in a real-life agriculture setting and continually explore the application of emerging technologies like 5G to address some of the challenges facing agriculture.”

Recipients of the award reflect the mission of Olds College and support the values, mandate and vision in a manner that has a positive, measurable and lasting impact on the college, states the release.
