A Olds man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Garland Curtis of Airdrie.

A Olds man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Garland Curtis of Airdrie.

Dustin Piper, 23, will make his first court appearance on Thursday in Airdrie.

The accused and the victim were acquaintances, according to police.

On Jan. 12, Airdrie RCMP discovered the body of Curtis, 40, at a home after a Fort McMurray co-worker called police, concerned that Curtis had not been at work for a number of days.

Since that time, police have been interviewing numerous witnesses, collecting forensics and waiting on analyses to be completed.

RCMP from detachments in Airdrie, Red Deer, Fort McMurray and Olds, as well as major crimes units from Calgary, Edmonton and New Brunswick, have been working on the investigation.

“There were a lot of different pieces to put together in order to see the big picture, and our team of professionals have been working tirelessly on this case,” said Airdrie RCMP Insp. Tony Hamori.
