The installation of a high-speed fibre optic cable, throughout Olds, will ensure every business and resident in town will have access to connectivity and high-speed internet.

The cable was installed under the umbrella/ownership of the Olds Institute for Community and Regional Development (OICRD), the Olds Connected Community Network (OCCN) and Olds Fibre Ltd. (OFL, operating under the trade name O-NET).

“The Town of Olds’ involvement and support in the fibre project has been to provide loans to OICRD to finance the construction of the OCCN network (totalling a principal amount of approximately $14 million and a guaranteed line of credit of up to $4.0 million),” the town said in a statement Friday.

“The construction of the fibre optic network and O-NET would not have been possible without the town’s financial support, as well as the thousands of hours of volunteer time devoted to this project by members of the technology committee of the OICRD.”
