Road conditions are thought to have been a factor in a fatal collision south of Carstairs on Wednesday afternoon.

RCMP said a grain truck was travelling south on Highway 2A when it appears to have lost control and collided with a northbound pickup at around 1 p.m. The collision happened between Carstairs and Crossfield.

“The driver of the pickup truck was declared deceased on scene and the driver of the grain truck was transported via ground ambulance to a hospital,” said police.

An RCMP collision analyst was on scene in the afternoon conducting an investigation.

“It is believed that poor road conditions, including fog and ice, are factors in this collision,” said RCMP.

Both northbound and southbound traffic was diverted on Highway 2A at Highway 580 to the north and Township Road 294 to the south.
