The opening of Red Deer’s Downtown Farmer’s Market is being postponed for social distancing reasons.
Amanda Gould, executive director of the Red Deer Downtown Business Association, said the Wednesday afternoon produce market on Little Gaetz Avenue is being delayed indefinitely: “There’s no set start date due to COVID-19.”
Red Deer’s larger, Saturday morning public market was also suspended from opening next month.
Founder Dennis Moffat’s permit to use the Servus Arena parking lot was revoked by the city until at least June 30, when the coronavirus situation will be re-evaluated.
Provincial guidelines limiting public gatherings to a maximum of 15 people make it impossible to hold any kind of markets until the number of viral cases decline.
