The Alberta Orienteering Association is relaunching its Outdoor Adventure Program in Red Deer.

The program features physical literacy games, fun agility stations, navigation and map reading for children between six and 12.

The program will run on Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. at Barrett Park – the exact locations will be confirmed. There will be two four-week sessions: April 27 to May 18 and May 25 to June 15.

“Our goal is to nurture a community based outdoor program in Red Deer where kids can develop competence, confidence and motivation to be active outside for life,” the Alberta Orienteering Association website said.

“We use orienteering as a tool to teach navigation, we play games to have fun and develop basic running skills, agility and endurance.”

Families can try the program for free on two upcoming Saturdays, April 10 and May 15, at Barrett Park from 1-3 p.m.

COVID-19 guidelines will be followed during events. Activities are planned with two metres of physical distancing and the maximum group size is 10, with leaders included.
