Pair charged with attempted murder after alleged machete attack

A Red Deer man and a Camrose youth have been charged with attempted murder in connection with a machete attack on a man at a house party in north Red Deer early Saturday morning.

A Red Deer man and a Camrose youth have been charged with attempted murder in connection with a machete attack on a man at a house party in north Red Deer early Saturday morning.

A 22-year-old Rocky Mountain House man was transported by ambulance with serious injuries to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre following the 4:10 a.m. incident in the 6300 block of 58th Avenue. Two other people were treated for minor injuries and released.

Dylan Huhn, 20, of Red Deer has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and two counts of failing to comply.

A 17-year-old Camrose youth has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. The youth cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Both suspects were to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court Tuesday (today).

This is the second report of a machete attack within a week in Red Deer. A 53-year-old man was reported to have suffered minor injuries in a machete attack Aug. 31 near 5300 block of Gaetz Avenue. At the time police said they were looking for a 17-year-old suspect.
