Patrolling RCMP spot house fire in Olds

No one home when blaze discovered early on Thursday morning

Patrolling RCMP officers spotted a house fire in Olds early Thursday.

Olds Fire Department got the call about 1:45 a.m. and arrived to find the east side of a home near 52nd Avenue and 50th Street ablaze.

“The structure had visible flames and smoke throughout,” said Old Fire Department in a Friday news release.

Firefighters did not know if anyone was home until the fire was brought under control and a search showed the building was unoccupied.

Sixteen firefighters responded to the fire with two engines, an aerial ladder truck and command and support units. They were on scene for about two hours.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
