After two years of virtual events, the Primary Care Network’s Fun Run will be held in-person next month.

On May 7, the Fun Run will be held, starting from the Canada 150 Square in Capstone. All ages, abilities and genders are welcome as the event offers 10 km, 5km and 3km run/walk distances, as well as a three-km Dog Jog and short events for toddlers.

Race director Bre Fitzpatrick said wants to use the popular annual event to boost the Red Deer community.

Since local businesses that helped support the run in the past have been hard-hit financially by the pandemic, this year’s #LocalSpirit Campaign will reinvest sponsors’ donations for prizes into buying gift cards to local restaurants.

The Red Deer PCN Fun Run purchased $4,500 worth of gift cards for 30 eateries. They will be given out to some of the participants and volunteers.

“We are really honoured to cheer on our local business community... Red Deer really believes in them and wants to help,” said Fitzpatrick.

Entry fees for this year’s race will go towards supporting the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre. The fee is $45 (early bird) or $55 after May 4.

The Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre will be running a public barbecue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Capstone, as well as hosting the Courage Cup Ball Hockey Tournament.

This event is partnering with the City of Red Deer, which is hosting Xplore Sport Day, with 30 local sports teams and clubs offering trials, demonstrations and information from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Capstone.
