Red Deer-based Peavey Industries LP has $50,000 up for grabs for non-profit groups that use agriculture to strengthen their communities.

Since 2013, non-profit groups have received $180,000 from the Peavey Mart Community Agricultural Grant.

“We want people to build on their great ideas by getting community support and feedback, and putting those ideas into plans,” says Jest Sidloski, Peavey Industries director of customer experience.

“A good idea for a community initiative won’t succeed unless it has a good plan.”

Some of the ideas that have been given financial help in past year include a non-profit greenhouse in Manitoba, community fruit orchard in Saskatchewan and a farmer’s potluck mixer in Alberta.

The grant does not typically fund buildings or renovations. “The focus is on operating community agriculture,” says Sidloski.

Application forms can be found on Peavey’s website at www.peaveymart.com The deadline for applications is May 31.

Peavey Mart has 37 stores across Western Canada. The company also has a controlling interest in TSC Stores LLP, a farm and ranch retail chain based in Ontario and Manitoba.
