A 17-year-old pedestrian was struck and injured by a truck that then fled the scene Tuesday night.

Red Deer RCMP said the male youth was crossing at 71th Street and 50th Avenue at about 10:15 p.m. when he was hit.

Police said the truck did not stop at the stop sign and struck youth who landed on the hood of the truck before falling to the pavement.

The truck ran over the victim’s foot when it drove away.

Red Deer Emergency Services transported the victim to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck was described as an older model truck, possibly a Ford, dark in colour. It was westbound on Niven Street at the time of the collision. No description was available of the driver.
