Pelican returns

Making a return from their wintering grounds along the coasts of the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico from California to Florida and down to Panama, the American White Pelicans can again be spotted soaring over Central Alberta and swimming on lakes and rivers in the region. This lone bird was spotted on the Red Deer River just upstream from the Joffre bridge east of Red Deer.

This lone bird was spotted on the Red Deer River just upstream from the Joffre bridge east of Red Deer. The large birds with wing spans of up to three metres nest in colonies of several hundred pairs on islands of inland North America.
