Border Paving has been awarded the development of 4.4 kms of new trails and upgrading current gravel pathways connecting areas throughout Penhold.

In addition to the trail work, the Community Hub recreational area at the Penhold Regional Multiplex will see more amenities which will complete the development of the area.

The project includes a bridge over the pond at the Community Hub, and additional lighting along the path system at the Community Hub.

Mayor Mike Yargeau said hopefully work will start in August and the majority of trails around the town’s pond should be finished this year. It may take until next year to complete some of the other trail work in town.

The town received $915,077 from the federal government’s Active Transportation Fund which pays for 60 per cent of the estimated $1.53-million project. The town commited $610,000.
