Penhold Fire responds to vehicle fire on Hwy 42

A vehicle caught fire on Highway 42 near Penhold on Friday afternoon.

Fire crews were call to the highway, east of Range Road 280, at 5:43 p.m.

Lt. Josh Wilson said firefighters arrived and found a pickup truck with its engine on fire.

“We (blocked) both lanes of the highway for a short period of time, and with the help of the peace officer, got traffic moving alternating in one lane,” said Wilson.

Fire Chief Jim Pendergast said the fire was started by an oil leak.

There were no injuries and the fire was contained to the engine area.
