Students at Our Lady of the Rosary Elementary school in Sylvan Lake recently wrapped up their United Way Penny Parade at their Count Our Blessings event. Shown here are the penny banks the students used. The goal of the Penny Parade is to teach youth that even pennies can make a difference to those in their community who need help. So far this year, 241 students, ages four to seven, have participated. The Penny Parade was originally started in 2009, but this is the first time the program has expanded to a school outside of Red Deer. It’s expected that this initiative raised about $2,000. The funds will be added to the 2011 United Way community campaign.
