Marijuana and other contraband materials worth $11,000 were seized by staff at Bowden Institution.

The police have been notified about the March 7 seizure in the minimum security unit, and the institution is investigating.

The Correctional Service of Canada uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors, states a release.

Corrections Canada has set up a telephone tips line to receive additional information related to drug use or trafficking that could threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates and staff members.

Calling 1‑866‑780‑3784 will ensure that the pertinent information is shared and that callers remain anonymous.
