In the spirit of gratitude and reconciliation, women from around Red Deer gathered in Centennial Park on Monday morning to celebrate Earth Day.
Women of all ages — from kids to seniors — attended a short ceremony at the gathering stones.
Theresa “Corky” Larsen Jonasson of the Red Feather Women, said traditional skirts were worn to show a respect for, and a connection to, Mother Earth.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection and sustainability. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day now includes events in more than 193 countries.
