Red Deer’s newest trail offers some bird’s-eye views of the city.

The trail was created along a Highland Green escarpment, between Howarth Street Close and 60th Street.

There’s also a new asphalt trail linkage from 60th Street & Riverview Avenue, through the Riverside Meadows Central Park site, to the lower Highland Green walkway (58 Ave & 61 St).

This long planned tie-in to the Waskasoo Park system was part of the Riverside Meadows redevelopment plan from 2009. It was designed to provide area residents with a green-way linked to other park trails.

“It will be a great recreational resource and have some amazing views,” at the top end of the escarpment, city parks manager Trevor Poth stated.

The entire walk is about five kilometres.
