Red Deer RCMP officers recently joined First Nations members for a traditional round dance in Coronation Park on Sunday.

The event was organized by the Red Deer Native Friendship Society as part of National Indigenous People’s Day celebrations.

The celebration recognized the heritage, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples.

“Red Deer RCMP is proud to work hand in hand with local Indigenous community members and elders, to drive positive change and make our city a leader in cultural acceptance and inclusiveness,” states a release from the detachment.

“We encourage all residents to learn, listen and seek to understand the significant role our Indigenous friends and neighbours played – and continue to play – in our city and country’s history.”
