Dozens of people gathered for an outdoor prayer ceremony on Friday. It was held before the ground-breaking for an Islamic Centre mosque and community hall that will be built next to the Timberlands fire hall in Red Deer.

Construction is expected to start in a few weeks and the mosque is expected to be operational before the end of 2024.
