A rally in support of building the Kinder Morgan pipeline is set for Saturday in Red Deer.
Rally 4 Resources is organizing the rally in Red Deer and is calling on Central Albertans, UCP members and politicians to come out and show support for the Trans Mountain expansion project.
Cheryl Hurtak, Rally 4 Resources spokesperson, said the movement is getting more and more support.
“There are so many people out there who feel like nobody’s listening,” Hurtak said. “People who support the oil industry, who support the pipeline only hear the negatives.”
“In Alberta this is our livelihood. For the last … 10 or so years, we’ve been suffering a lot of negative media. We have the most ethical, moral, responsibly sourced fossil fuels in the world, but we get called out over and over again,” she said.
The rally goes from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the corner of Gaetz Ave and 32 Street by the Sheraton Hotel, where the UCP is holding its Founding AGM this weekend.
“We just want to reach as many people as we possibly can. We’d be just as willing to go to a rally by any other party.
“It doesn’t matter what stripe’s on your arm, we just want positive support and for politicians to stand up and say this is a good industry instead of that they’re embarrassed by the industry,” Hurtak said.
Hundreds of thousands of jobs across Alberta and Canada depend on the oil and gas sector, she added.
Rally 4 Resoruces is a grassroots movement advocating Canadian oil and gas and pipelines to tidewater in both east and west Canada.
