The planning stage continues to progress for a pilot project that aims to free up ambulances to respond to emergency calls in Red Deer.

In a statement on Monday, Alberta Health Services said the Red Deer Inter-Facility Transfer pilot project aims to manage low-acuity patient transfers between facilities with dedicated transfer united.

“As Alberta Health Services EMS continues to manage a sustained and significant increase in 911 calls, its implementation of all items in the EMS 10-Point Plan is helping to address these continued system pressures, creating capacity within the EMS system,” AHS said.

“Planning options for the pilot are underway and will see service partners and AHS working together to implement the model.”

AHS will have further information about the pilot as it progresses, the public health authority stated.
