Acclaimed B.C. singer-songwriter Jordan Klassen will perform Sunday at Red Deer’s Red Hart Brewing.
Klassen is gearing up to release his new album, Marginalia, on Oct. 20th, and is touring across Western Canada ahead of the release.
Marginalia is the follow up and companion piece to Jordan’s 2022 release, Glossolalia (which saw the single, Niko, chart in CBC Music’s Top 20).
“Marginalia is about the edges of life, away from the mainstream,” stated Klassen. It often comes from a stream of consciousness, “where we uncover things that aren’t in the direct line of sight. They are what we see by the light of the moon rather than direct sunlight.”
Still rooted in a poetic folkiness, this new album is more melodic and less stripped down than what Klassen has produced before. “It’s filled with atmospheric orchestral arrangements, plucky piano and guitar stylings, and highlights Jordan’s top-notch storytelling songwriting style,” states a release from the artist’s publicist.
Casey is the single from the new album that dropped on Friday. Greener Hills and King of the Empire are other tunes, about how anything apart from a spiritual pursuit can feel futile, even “heartbreaking.”
