Police ALERT in catching sex assault suspect

A Red Deer man has been charged with sexual assault after an incident in the Port ‘O Call Safeway in south Red Deer on July 7. Police say the suspect was confronted by a woman who he had sexually touched around 10 p.m.

A Red Deer man has been charged with sexual assault after an incident in the Port ‘O Call Safeway in south Red Deer on July 7. Police say the suspect was confronted by a woman who he had sexually touched around 10 p.m.

Staff in the store responded and the suspect fled.

While the suspect was being chased by staff, two members of ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team) happened to be driving by. They saw what was happening and intercepted the foot chase. The suspect was arrested and detained until police arrived on the scene moments later.

The suspect’s name will be released once charges have been sworn before the courts. RCMP continue to investigate and more charges may be forthcoming.
