Red Deer RCMP arrested a person after a chase through downtown Red Deer on Thursday morning that ended near the police detachment.

A man is in custody after the driver of a truck failed to stop for police, crashed the truck he was driving and tried to flee on foot. The incident occurred around 11:25 a.m. when members of the Community Response Unit located a white Ford truck with a stolen licence plate in downtown Red Deer. Police attempted a traffic stop with the truck, which then sped away south on Gaetz Avenue. Police did not pursue the truck for public safety. As it sped off, the truck struck a parked vehicle a short distance away. The crash caused damage to the truck, making driving difficult. The driver abandoned the truck on the side of the road and fled on foot. After a short foot chase, police were able to apprehend the male driver. No one was injured during this incident. A 28-year-old male is presently in custody facing charges.
